I can't believe it's finally over! What a relief.
Now my thoughts. I did really learn a lot about all the words I hear these days, like blogs, pocasts, etc. Now I kind of know what people are talking about. I really liked new researching tools. I liked library thing. I liked that recipe thing too. Actually there weren't too many things I didn't like. What I didn't like was that I had a hard time seeing how most of this would affect my job. Another thing is the amount of time it took and hour a week is not enough.
I do like lifelong learning and that is good, so all in all it was a good experience. I think it helped a lot of people in the library here. I would do something like it again, not not tomorrow!
Hope I win something!
Bye!

thing 22
I am several peoples friend here in the library on Facebook since most people have already done this step. I have a facebook account. For this exercise I read the long article about facebook over forty. It was mainly about Zuckerman. Wow, that guy really lucked out! I don't believe that everyone in the world will be on there eventually, but it looks like several older people are on there. I think it said soemthing like a million a day sign up. Things I don't like? well, first of all i didn't realize I put my birthdate on there. I took it off. Secondly, I don't have time to answer everyone's pokes and be everyone's friend since I don't use the internet or email at home. I see why it fizzles out witht the younger crowd when they graduate - they don't have that much time.
For one of the exercises I checked out friendster. It was really just a bunch of pictures and not that interesting at all. Only a few people my age I found.

Thing 21
I went on podcast.net and checked out a couple of podcasts in the relationship area. To be honest it was like listening to a radio show and was boring to me. I then went to Yahoo to check their podcasts looking for a library one and it was even more boring. I didn't find a podcast I really liked. I do like listening to radio shows sometimes but tonight I guess i'm just not into it. Maybe when I feel like listening to something specific, this might be a good resource to go looking for it.
Thing 20
Did thing 20 and checked out YouTube. I looked at three videos. The first was a music video by I was a Cubscout - I thought that was the title of the song. I picked it because I too was a cubscout! I then checked out a how to video on making soy milk and then one on tofu. I picked these because i like tofu and soymilk ( or at least the thought of eating healthy!) The first was good the second one th guy making it messed up. I generally liked You Tube and found nothing I didn't like. I think that maybe these could be used in the library setting in posting how to video clips on library processes like how to research for a paper maybe.

Thing 19
Did thing 19. I went to farecast.com since I am hoping to head to California for Christmas. I really lkiked how you could see all the different fares for lots of airlines. What I didn't like is that it didn't include Southwest and Skybus (that I could see). I think it's use in the library would be mostly for saving the library money with all the traveling the library staff does!

Thing 18
Hey Diana,
I did the Google Docs thing. It looks very much like what I have available on my computer. I don't plan on switching. I wrote my self a note of encouragement to help me make it through the day. I emailed it, but haven't received it yet. I could sure use it right about now!

Thing 17
Thanks to some help from my friends I completed this thing. I entered my secret salsa recipe that I use a lot and entered my blog so you would know I was there. Six more things! Oh yeah, the FC is moving along. We will be moving in on Friday!
Thing 16
Did thing 16. Went to sjcpl, I liked their site, I checked out gardening. I also like their links to local services we could use that here. At book lovers wiki, I learned where the word wiki came from - hawaii. I read a review on Crazy Busy. Fits the recent weeks I've gone through here at work. Bull Run Library Wiki was not as interesting to me.

Thing 15
Library 2.0
Thought number one - Will I have a job tomorrow!?! Seriously, I think this step can be summed up in one word - CHANGE. I read articles 1, 2, & 3. They all pretty much say the same thing, how are we going to change and adapt to our users. I am getting more used to change and find myself less resistant to it. The thing I liked most about this thing was that I din't have to open up a new account.

Thing 14
I kind of got side tracked with the Faculty Commons (you know that thing that this blog is named after!) and have tackled "thing" 14. Technorati is ok. I did the search on the blog posts and mostly looked up blogs by Alden people. I did the tag search and looked at Jan's Youtube clip which I probably should've looked up in the beginning! Blog Directory search was uninpriring though. Finally, I checked out the most popular adn watched Miss South Carolina's flub - after today's tours I gave of the FC I really feel for the girl! :-)

Step 13
I did the exercises. The first exercise was about delisiuos - I like the concept of having my links where I can access them from any computer and I also like the tags which I feel are a big help in searching for similar or related items. The second exercise didn't really appeal to me that much since I am not a librarian. I guess I may need to open my mind a bit and look at it in a way that i could use this in my facilities position! I love the cookbook in exercise three, I think I may have to start one of my own. It was interesting clicking the tags and all the new recipes that came up. I looked at "saved by 245 other people" and still cannot figure out why I should! I may be technologically hopeless! ha ha.

Step 12
I did the Rollyo thing, but I really liked the "rollyo" thing Diana made. It was really awesome, I did a search on simplicity and found a lot of really interesting sites I never knew existed. I can really use this for my personal research and can see how others can use this for academic research too. My new favorite step!

Step 11
This is my favorite exercise so far! I will use this one for sure. I'm looking forward to adding more of my books and finding other libraries that are similar. Also, I like the suggestion area for new ideas on books to read.

Step 10
The image generator. Actually I started this execise a coupkle of weeks ago but didn't post. They had some pretty rude generators then, but I found some better ones this time, like the alcohol abuse excuse generator http://www.magicmgmt.com/magic/abuse-excuse/ or the name your own airlines. This is not something I think I would do alot!
Step 9
This was the most boring exercise to me. First I went to Syndic8.com this one took forever, so I finally left that site. I did like Topix though, but mostly for the local news. Feedster was okay, but when i clicked on something it wasn't as labeled, for example I clicked on Depository libraries and got gardening info!
I still can't get my favorite sites to RSS feed, so I won't likely use this.

Step 7
Getting a little out of sequence and a lot behind. This post is about technology that interests me. I want to post about the new library wiki they are talking about starting up. Monday they mentioned about having the library alert manual posted there and some up the ways that will make it easier to keep up to date and more accessible to the library staff. I think I will also get my own "area" where I can make announcements to library staff. Thsi could be cool! rbboy

News Reader Step 8
Did the newsreader thing today. It was easy, but I sure would've liked it alot more if my favorites sites were readable, which they are not!
The Faculty commons is moving right along almost halp the floor is in metal studs, the fest should be finished soon.
Be back to work on Monday. Have a good Fourth!

Step 5
This morning I perused Flicker one more time, this time following the instructions on this assignment, I'm adding a link to a really cool picture from Alberta Canada. It looks like one more place I need to see! Check it out - http://www.flickr.com/photos/tr-ipod/509483680/
I've been to Bristish Columbia on the other side of the "hills" at this time of year and it is awesome!

Step 6
Did the mashup thing today by going to Mapperz and dug a hole from Alden Library to the other side of the world. Guess where you end up? It's not China! Ask me and I'll tell you.
Today on the FC project things are moving right along. They are cutting the last hole for the window in over the loading dock. They've finally started to make some progress on the walls. Hopefully by the end of the week they will have all ov them standing. I'll work on some photos tomorrow.
Need more time to do this!

Lifelong Learning
Yep, I am running late on this!
First the easist of the 7-1/2 is number two - "accept responsibility for your own learning" Been doing that all along, but never thought of it in that way.
The hardest is number three - "view problems as challenges" . Problems are problems, lets not candy coat these things! Deal with them!
Now, lets see, how far behind am I now........
