Thing 15

Library 2.0

Thought number one - Will I have a job tomorrow!?! Seriously, I think this step can be summed up in one word - CHANGE. I read articles 1, 2, & 3. They all pretty much say the same thing, how are we going to change and adapt to our users. I am getting more used to change and find myself less resistant to it. The thing I liked most about this thing was that I din't have to open up a new account.

Thing 14

I kind of got side tracked with the Faculty Commons (you know that thing that this blog is named after!) and have tackled "thing" 14. Technorati is ok. I did the search on the blog posts and mostly looked up blogs by Alden people. I did the tag search and looked at Jan's Youtube clip which I probably should've looked up in the beginning! Blog Directory search was uninpriring though. Finally, I checked out the most popular adn watched Miss South Carolina's flub - after today's tours I gave of the FC I really feel for the girl! :-)

Step 13

I did the exercises. The first exercise was about delisiuos - I like the concept of having my links where I can access them from any computer and I also like the tags which I feel are a big help in searching for similar or related items. The second exercise didn't really appeal to me that much since I am not a librarian. I guess I may need to open my mind a bit and look at it in a way that i could use this in my facilities position! I love the cookbook in exercise three, I think I may have to start one of my own. It was interesting clicking the tags and all the new recipes that came up. I looked at "saved by 245 other people" and still cannot figure out why I should! I may be technologically hopeless! ha ha.

Step 12

I did the Rollyo thing, but I really liked the "rollyo" thing Diana made. It was really awesome, I did a search on simplicity and found a lot of really interesting sites I never knew existed. I can really use this for my personal research and can see how others can use this for academic research too. My new favorite step!

Step 11

This is my favorite exercise so far! I will use this one for sure. I'm looking forward to adding more of my books and finding other libraries that are similar. Also, I like the suggestion area for new ideas on books to read.

Step 10

The image generator. Actually I started this execise a coupkle of weeks ago but didn't post. They had some pretty rude generators then, but I found some better ones this time, like the alcohol abuse excuse generator http://www.magicmgmt.com/magic/abuse-excuse/ or the name your own airlines. This is not something I think I would do alot!

Step 9

This was the most boring exercise to me. First I went to Syndic8.com this one took forever, so I finally left that site. I did like Topix though, but mostly for the local news. Feedster was okay, but when i clicked on something it wasn't as labeled, for example I clicked on Depository libraries and got gardening info!

I still can't get my favorite sites to RSS feed, so I won't likely use this.

Step 7

Getting a little out of sequence and a lot behind. This post is about technology that interests me. I want to post about the new library wiki they are talking about starting up. Monday they mentioned about having the library alert manual posted there and some up the ways that will make it easier to keep up to date and more accessible to the library staff. I think I will also get my own "area" where I can make announcements to library staff. Thsi could be cool! rbboy
